Ishan Kishan Duleep Trophy comeback after domestic cricket grind

Ishan Kishan’s return to India’s white-ball setup has been shaped by two years of domestic cricket, a period he believes changed his mindset more than his batting technique. His latest statement came after a commanding 270 for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy final against South Zone.

The Ishan Kishan Duleep Trophy comeback has followed a difficult period away from the national team. After being asked to return to domestic cricket, the wicketkeeper-batter spent two seasons with Jharkhand, where he had to rebuild his case through consistent performances.

Kishan said the experience helped him recognise that regular international cricket can sometimes slow individual growth. Returning to domestic cricket forced him to start again, compete with players scoring heavily and earn another opportunity through performance.

The Ishan Kishan Duleep Trophy comeback has also been driven by a change in approach at the crease. Kishan explained that reflection helped him understand why earlier starts were not becoming big scores. Instead of thinking about attacking every delivery, he now focuses on staying relaxed and playing according to the situation.

That mindset was evident in Chennai. Kishan spent 522 minutes at the crease and faced 334 deliveries for his 270, hitting 30 boundaries and seven sixes. South Zone attempted to unsettle him with short deliveries and leg-side fields, but he resisted the temptation to manufacture shots.

The Ishan Kishan Duleep Trophy comeback has therefore combined patience with his naturally aggressive stroke-making. Kishan said refusing to make mistakes when bowlers are searching for openings can eventually tire the opposition and create scoring opportunities.

His performance has strengthened East Zone’s position in the Duleep Trophy final. The team reached 708 runs, while the pitch began offering some assistance to spin. Kishan said the immediate objective was to take all 10 South Zone wickets and secure a first-innings advantage.

The Ishan Kishan domestic cricket return has given the batter a different perspective on pressure and competition. His Duleep Trophy performance now provides a clear example of how patience, responsibility and sustained domestic cricket can support a successful international comeback.
